How often should outdoor AC condenser units be high-pressure washed?

The outdoor split AC units on our balcony in Ajman collect heavy sand and dust coating every few months. Does rinsing condenser coils with a gentle hose spray improve cooling efficiency, and can high-pressure washers bend fins?

A gentle hose rinse is usually enough for a dusty outdoor condenser. It can improve airflow through the coil and help the AC reject heat more effectively, especially when sand and dust are visibly blocking the fins.

I wouldn’t use a high-pressure washer on the coil. The pressure can bend the aluminium fins and reduce airflow, sometimes causing more problems than the dirt itself. For an Ajman balcony unit, a light rinse every few months is reasonable when dust buildup is heavy, while a proper AC service can include coil cleaning when the unit is heavily soiled.
