How to fix washing machine not draining?
Hey everyone, I need some quick troubleshooting advice.
My front-load washing machine is completely stuck with water sitting inside the drum, and it refused to finish the spin cycle. I tried unplugging it, waiting for a few minutes, and running just the drain cycle, but nothing happened. I hear a faint humming sound coming from the bottom, but the water won’t budge.
Does anyone know how to fix washing machine not draining without calling a technician right away? It is an LG inverter direct drive model. Is there a filter or drain pump filter at the bottom that I should clean first, or is the pump motor dead?
Any DIY steps or safety tips would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

In this situation, you should first check the issue yourself to see if you can fix it at home.
Phase 1: Checking for Blockages
1. Drain the water from the machine and make sure the drum is completely empty.
2. Remove the filter by turning it counter-clockwise and pulling it out.
3. There is a 90% chance that whatever is blocking the system is stuck inside this filter, so clean it thoroughly.
4. Check the impeller (the small plastic fan inside). After opening the filter, look inside with a flashlight or check with your finger to see if you can spin it.
5. If the fan is not spinning and feels completely jammed, something is definitely stuck in there. Look closely and remove the object.
6. If the fan spins but feels very loose or wobbly, it means the fan is broken.
If you have tried all of these steps and the issue is still not fixed, we will need to check the pump motor.
Phase 2: Checking the Pump Motor
1. Leave the filter open, plug in the machine, and run only a spin or drain cycle. Bend down and check if the small plastic fan is spinning rapidly.
2. If the fan is spinning, the blockage might be in the gray drain pipe at the back. Check to make sure it is not bent or pinched anywhere.
3. If the fan is not spinning at all but you still hear a humming sound, you will need to replace the drain pump motor because it has failed.
You can easily do all of this yourself at home. However, if you have absolutely no experience with appliance repairs, please be careful or call a professional.
If the fan is broken or won't spin, you will need to install a new drain pump. If you can replace it yourself, simply remove the old pump, buy a new one from the market, and fit it—this will save you a good amount of money.
