How to fix mouse double clicking?

Whenever I perform a single left-click on my mouse, it automatically registers as a double-click. Is this a hardware switch issue or a software settings problem? Please let me know how it can be fixed and what the estimated repair cost would be.

Why does a mouse start double-clicking? It usually comes down to three things:

1. Physical wear and tear (Most Common):

Inside the mouse, there is a tiny copper switch under the button. Over time, after thousands of clicks, the metal spring inside gets loose or bent. When this happens, a single tap registers as two. Unfortunately, when this switch fails, you usually have to replace the mouse or solder a new switch.

2. Static buildup or dust:

Sometimes static electricity gets trapped inside the mouse components, or a bit of dust gets inside the clicker, messing with the connection. A quick trick is to unplug the mouse, take out the batteries, and click both buttons repeatedly for about a minute. This discharges the static and often clears up the issue.

3. Windows settings:

Sometimes, your mouse is fine, but your computer settings are off. If the double-click speed in your Control Panel is set too fast, Windows might think a normal, single click is a double-click. Go to your mouse settings and turn the double-click speed down a bit to see if that fixes it.
